Great story Mike,
people can't understand that ALL Animals are individuals not "walking-food"....
Edie was a (lucky) special chicken to you and you describe very well your feelings in this story.
It touched my heart and I thank you because you let me read it.
Veganism is the only way to be Human it's not a special thing, it's simply the unique human life-style that should exist!!!
Not only Cats and dogs worth to live their lives being respected and loved by people.
All Animals have a soul and a heart and they are not on the Earth to be slaughterd and eaten!!!
I hope it will come soon the day where our Planet will become a huge animal sanctuary!!!
P.S.: excuse my bad English... but you know I'm Italian *___^)
Love, Pam.

Beautifully written my friend. One becomes vegan when she/he realizes that each animal is an individual. And from this understanding, it becomes unimaginable to take an animal’s freedom or life. Meat eating is a crisis of perception.
Thich Nhtat Hanh said: “For things to reveal themselves to us, we need to be ready to abandon our views about them.”

The Woodstock Animal Farm sanctuary helps people shift their perception. Edie lived a happy and purposeful life that may save thousands of her peers.

Thank you for putting into such powerful words that which all of us feel when a friend is gone. To be recognised, welcomed and may be even loved by a chicken (or any other being) is a wonderful thing to know and I wish it for everyone.

A beautiful and touching tribute, to a life that mattered to all of those that were fortunate enough to be touched by her spirit. As the mom to a total of seven chicken babies over the years, and now with the addition of one step-chicken, I can attest to the fact that each one of these little beings has a very distinctive personality, that is individual to each of them. My life has been enriched beyond belief, by having shared it with my chicken family. I wouldn't trade the time that I was given with each of them, for anything. Though each of them were "rescued", it is I that was rescued by having these tiny teachers spare me from a life of total loneliness, and ignorance. Thank you for sharing this great story Mike, and Jenny, and for all you do for animals....and people such as I. I love you both!

Thank you for writing this, Mike. It's beautiful and a powerful, true message that all chickens are just as important, special and individualistic as Edie. She was special to us but no different from the billions who are killed every year in this country for the sake of taste and habit. Her memory lives on in our hearts like all of the wonderful animals who have come through our doors and into our lives.

Love you my friend.
